Here is the Brotherhood of Gaming review of The Dark Knight and Batman: Gotham Knight
If you havent seen The Dark Knight yet, first of all you are in the minority, and second, stop what youre doing and see it right now. Yes, its that good! This is the sequel to the great Batman Begins which saved the franchise from Joel Schumachers bat nipples. Director Chris Nolan took the Caped Crusader back to his dark roots in Batman Begins, and for this movie, he took him even further. Everything in this movie is top notch. The acting is tremendous. Christian Bale (when hes not beating up members of his family) is a great actor, and he makes Bruce Wayne just as interesting as Batman. The supporting cast is just as good, with Michael Caine as Alfred, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox, and especially Gary Oldman as Lt. James Gordon. Maggie Gyllenhaal plays Rachel Dawes. Now, she may not be much to look at, but she is better then Katie Holmes, who played the character in the first movie. Another great performance comes from Aaron Eckhart who plays Harvey Dent/Two-Face. It was really tragic to watch a good man Harvey, transform into the evil Two-Face, thanks to the Joker. Speaking of which, the performance everyone is talking about is Health Ledger as the Clown Prince of Crime, and rightfully so. Ledger, in his last completed performance, was incredible. He was sick and twisted, and very, very creepy. What I hated about Spiderman 3 is that everyone had personal problems, even the bad guys. Oh, there not so bad, there just misunderstood. Well Dark Knight says screw that, our bad guy is just a crazy S.O.B., who kills people just for the hell of it. The action is great to, with some fantastic, stunk work. I love the Bat-Pod! The special effects are also nicely done, especially Two Face. That was just twisted. The movie is long, but the thing is, you dont want it to end. It keeps your attention all the way through it. The only negative thing I can say, is that Christian Bales growling Batman voice is a little cheesy. Overall, its one of the best comic book movies I have ever seen. Now, there has been a lot of Oscar buzz for this movie and it deserves it. I think Ledger should get a nomination and maybe Eckhart as well. The movie, director, screenplay should also get nominated, but we will have to wait and see for that in February.
On a scale from 1 to 5: T.B.O.G. gives The Dark Knight a 5.
Also, in stores now, is the Direct to DVD Animated Film Batman: Gotham Knight. Now, this is six interlocking stories that take place between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. What makes it unique is that the stories are written by American writes and drawn by Japanese animators. Thats right; this is a Batman Anime Film. Each episode has a different animated style and for the most part it works. Although some episodes are better then others. The first one, is about three kids who tell the own version of Batman. Because it is from the P.O.V. of three kids, the animation is pretty cartoony. Its like an episode of Shin Chan. Its not very good. There was an episode of Batman: The Animated Series which was just like this, only done better. The second episode does get things going in the right direction. It centers on two cops, one likes Batman, the other doesnt. The middle of this episode gets a little weird, but the ending kicks ass. The third is my favorite, basically because Will hates it so much! I call it the Death Note episode. Why? Because the animation looks just like Death Note. Bruce Wayne even looks like Light Yagami!! Skinny! Red hair! It was Light! When Batman was fighting, I was expecting him to pull out a Death Note, and for the criminals to start dying of heart attacks! Besides Light Wayne, it was a good episode. The next one featured Killer Crock and Scarecrow, followed by an episode in which Bruce goes on a spiritual quest and meet an Indian girl who teaches him about dealing with pain, and the final one is a showdown with Dead Shot. That last one had a major mistake! It had Wayne Manor in it, but it was blown up in Batman Begins and it had not been rebuilt yet! Opps! Oh, well. I guess we can over look that. Overall, this is a good companion for the Dark Knight movie. On the bonus features, there is also a sneak peak at the upcoming animated Wonder Woman movie. Sweet!
On a scale of 1 to 5: T.B.O.G. gives Batman: Gotham Knight a 3 ½.
